Fabric Pulls and Cutting

I’m so excited to kick things off and spend the next 6 weeks quilting together. I can’t wait to see your beautiful quilt tops come to life!
Make sure you have your copy of the Winter Blossom quilt pattern (PDF only), and let’s get started!
About the Quilt Along
If you’re just joining us for the Quilt Along and haven’t checked out the Winter Blossom QAL Details page yet, be sure to start there! You’ll find everything you need to know including shops with kits, a digital coloring page, and more.
Over the next 6 weeks, we’ll be working together to create a Winter Blossom quilt top. Just as a reminder, here’s a look at our schedule:

Let's get started
Week 1: Fabric Pulls & Cutting
This week is all about choosing your fabrics and getting everything cut and ready so we can dive into piecing over the next few weeks!
Cutting Your Fabrics
Now it’s time to start cutting! Here are a few tips to help make the process smooth and efficient:
Now it’s time to start cutting! Here are a few tips to help make the process smooth and efficient:
- Starch and press all your fabrics before cutting—this helps reduce fraying and keeps everything crisp.
- You’ll be cutting lots of strips that will later be sub-cut into smaller pieces. My go-to tool for this is the XL Stripology ruler—it seriously cuts my cutting time in half and gives me more time to sew!
- If you’re using a traditional long ruler, I highly recommend checking out this helpful blog post by Lynet of @lynsavenue on how to avoid curved cuts when cutting strips.
Once you’ve cut all your fabric, snap a photo (or two!) and share it on Instagram using the hashtags:
What I'll Be Making
I started making a second sample of my Winter Blossom Quilt, but then life got in the way! I'm excited to use the Quilt Along as a chance to finally finish it—and to sew right alongside all of you.

I mocked it up in Quilt Ink using Art Gallery Fabrics, and here are the Pure Solids colors I chose for this version:
- Turmeric
- Morning Frost
- Blushing
- Tile Blue
- Light Grey (background)
I can already picture how beautifully these colors will come together, and I can’t wait to see it take shape.
